  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • Chicken thighs or breast (cut into bite-sized pieces)
  • Cornstarch
  • Egg
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Oil (for frying)
  • Soy sauce
  • Hoisin sauce
  • Rice vinegar
  • Sugar
  • Garlic (minced)
  • Ginger (minced)
  • Chili flakes or dried chilies
  • Chicken broth
  • Cornstarch slurry
  • Green onions
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Season chicken with salt and pepper, then mix with egg and cornstarch until evenly coated.
  2. Heat oil in a pan or wok and fry chicken until golden and crispy. Remove and set aside.
  3. In another pan, sauté garlic, ginger, and chili flakes until fragrant.
  4. Add soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and chicken broth. Stir and bring to a simmer.
  5. Add cornstarch slurry and cook until the sauce thickens.
  6. Return fried chicken to the pan and toss until fully coated.
  7. Cook for another minute to combine flavors.
  8. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
  9. Serve hot with rice or preferred side.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, bake or air-fry the chicken instead of deep frying.
  • Adjust spice level by increasing or reducing chili.
  • Substitute sugar with honey for a different sweetness.
  • Add vegetables like broccoli or bell peppers for extra nutrition.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat in a pan or oven to maintain crispiness.
