Homemade Chocolate Fudge Poptart

Homemade Chocolate Fudge Poptarts feature a flaky buttery crust filled with rich chocolate fudge and topped with a smooth chocolate glaze for a nostalgic, indulgent treat.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 20 minutes
  • Yield: 6-8 poptarts

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 4-6 tbsp cold water
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream or milk
  • 100 g dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2-3 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Add cold water gradually, mixing until a dough forms. Divide into two discs, wrap, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  3. In a saucepan over low heat, combine cocoa powder, brown sugar, and cream or milk. Stir until smooth and slightly thickened.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in chopped dark chocolate, vanilla extract, and salt until melted and glossy. Let cool completely.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Roll out chilled dough and cut into equal rectangles.
  7. Place filling onto half the rectangles, leaving a border. Top with remaining rectangles and seal edges with a fork.
  8. Poke small holes on top of each to allow steam to escape.
  9. Bake for 20–25 minutes until lightly golden. Cool completely.
  10. Mix glaze ingredients until smooth and spread over cooled poptarts.
  11. Allow glaze to set before serving.

Notes

  • Chill the dough properly to ensure a flaky texture.
  • Do not overfill to prevent leaking during baking.
  • Add chocolate chips or nuts for extra texture.
  • Store at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerate up to 5 days.
  • Reheat in oven for best texture; avoid microwaving.
